The new ‘Percy Jackson:’ Walker Scobell of Fairview cast in lead of new Disney+ series

Fairview teenager Walker Scobell, who recently starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in the Netflix movie “The Adam Project,” has been cast as Percy Jackson in Disney+’s upcoming series “Percy Jackson & The Olympians.”

Rick Riordan, the author of the best-selling “Percy Jackson” novels, announced Monday that Scobell was on board as the show’s lead character.

“Walker Scobell is an incredibly talented young man who blew us away with his audition tapes for the role of Percy,” Riordan wrote on his website. “It was obvious to me and the rest of the team that Walker had the perfect mix of comedic timing, sweetness, rebelliousness, snark, and heroism to embody our hero Percy Jackson.”

Scobell auditioned months before “The Adam Project” came out, and the film confirmed what Riordan and his team knew about the 13-year-old’s talent, according to the statement.

Since receiving the news he landed the part of Jackson, Scobell has done numerous chemistry reads with candidates for the other two leads, Annabeth and Grover, which Riordan said will be chosen soon.

We look forward to working with the Scobells in Vancouver (British Columbia) full-time this summer and building on the dedicated, supportive, enthusiastic community that is rapidly forming around this project,” Riordan wrote.
