New Delhi: Supreme court reserved its verdict on a batch of challenging petitions on Thursday Karnataka High Court The decision to refuse to lift the ban on the hijab in educational institutions in the state.
The High Court had on March 15 dismissed the petitions filed by a section of Muslim students Government Pre-University Girls College Seeking permission to wear the hijab inside the classroom in Udupi, saying it is not a part of the religious practice required in the Islamic faith.
The state government, by its order dated February 5, 2022, had banned the wearing of clothes that disturbed equality, integrity and public order in schools and colleges.
Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s decision.
